Specifically tailored for maritime professionals, the MRCE app is robust and user-friendly, designed to operate seamlessly both at sea and on land. Built to cater to an international seafaring user base, our app guarantees full offline functionality and compatibility across multiple devices and operating systems, making it an essential tool for maritime operations worldwide.
Engineering cutting-edge applications that combine advanced data integration, seamless authentication, and exceptional user experiences to create reliable and scalable systems.

When maritime incidents occur at sea, collecting proper evidence is critical for insurance claims and dispute resolution. But doing this on a vessel - often in remote waters with no internet connection - is extremely challenging. Paper-based processes lead to incomplete records, lost evidence, and delays that weaken claims.
NorthStandard needed a digital tool that would guide crew through the evidence collection procedures outlined in "The Mariner's Role in Collecting Evidence" (MRCE) handbook - the maritime industry standard for incident documentation. The solution had to work completely offline, handle photo and video evidence capture, and securely synchronise data when connectivity became available.

We built the MRCE mobile app as a comprehensive incident reporting and evidence collection platform specifically designed for life at sea. The app provides structured checklists covering every type of maritime incident, with each checklist containing 50 to 100 items drawn from a master list of approximately 1,000 checklist items.
The app works entirely offline with intelligent data caching. Crew members can capture photo and video evidence, save progress at any point, and return to a report without losing data. When connectivity is restored, everything syncs securely to the cloud. Authentication uses NorthStandard's own SSO system, and administrators can invite crew members and manage incident reports across their fleet.
Built with Flutter for cross-platform deployment on iOS and Android, the app also provides access to relevant sections of the MRCE handbook directly within the interface, so crew have guidance at their fingertips when documenting an incident.

Crew members across NorthStandard's global membership can now systematically document incidents following the exact procedures from the MRCE handbook. Structured digital checklists ensure nothing is missed, and timestamped photo and video evidence provides stronger documentation for insurance claims.
The offline-first architecture means the app works reliably in the most challenging maritime environments - mid-ocean, in port, or anywhere in between. The quality and completeness of incident evidence has improved significantly, strengthening NorthStandard's ability to support their members through claims and disputes.
This project is part of a broader digital partnership between MCD and NorthStandard, demonstrating how specialist software development can solve complex operational challenges in the maritime insurance sector.
