The Brief

To create an app that is easy to use for local residents and visitors to check the latest coronavirus advice on the town. Visit Middlesbrough.

The local council needed a way to be able to quickly communicate with the public to let them know about the safety measures that are taking place, as well as the shops and restaurants that are open for business.

For residents and visitors to see the latest news, valuable safety information around the covid crisis, an up-to-date listing of local shops and restaurants that are open for business and real-time footfall data from the town centre.

The apps connect to a variety of data sources through custom APIs.

The app is built upon Google’s Flutter framework, allowing a clean design to act beautifully and seamlessly on both iOS and Android Platforms. It’s a breeze for admins to manage content using Sanity Studio, an open source headless real-time Content Management System.

Building blocks for the future

The Visit Middlesbrough app is the first step towards a ‘smart city’ approach for Middlesbrough. Whereby technology is used to enhance visitor experience, share information with residents and improve the quality of services.
